Simple Bacterial Vaginosis Home Remedies
Vagina is the place where bacteria easily grow and cause infection. In fact, both good and bad bacteria are normally live in the vagina. But in some point, both bacteria grow in imbalance amount which cause infection known as bacterial vaginosis. The imbalance amount of bad bacteria in the vagina causes inflammation which can be detected by the presence of foul and thick discharge and foul smelling in the vagina.
Other symptoms also involve redness, swelling, pain and burning sensation when urinated. Women ages from late teens to mid 40s are prone to experience bacterial vaginosis. In addition, some activities such as smoking or douching increas the risk; however, the real cause that trigger the infection is still remain unknown. Fortunately, there are some home remedies to treat bacterial vaginosis as the following.
Yogurt – yogurt contains good bacteria especially lactobacillus acidophilus which is natural bacteria found in women’s body. These bacteria are beneficial in treating infections in vagina by rebalancing the bacteria levels. It is quite easy to use yogurt to balance the bacteria in vagina; you can just simply dip the tampon in yogurt for about ten minutes and then use it normally for about two hours. Also, eating two cups of plain yogurt to restore the normal PH balance in the vagina as well as limiting the bad bacteria growth.
Apple cider vinegar – the main cause of bacterial vaginosis is due to the imbalance of the bacteria and pH levels in the vagina. Apple cider vinegar contains acidic which also beneficial to balancing the bad and good bacteria. In addition, apple cider vinegar is also powerful to eliminate the bad bacteria in the vagina because of the antibacterial agents. You can pour apple cider vinegar for about two cups to the bath water and is in it around 20 minutes. And then pat dry the vaginal area. Repeat the steps for once a day or until the condition gets better.
Fenugreek – fenugreek is also famous among home remedies due to the ability to strengthen the immune system. It also has the ability to balancing the pH level in the vagina. You can consume fenugreek by mixing the fenugreek powder with one cup of yogurt. For those prefer drink solution, add fenugreek seeds for about a teaspoon into a cup of water and let it steep for about five minutes and the strain. You can add honey to add some taste. You can eat fenugreek for twice a day or drink it for three times a day.
Garlic – garlic has been long known as the ultimate natural remedies for it has antifungal and antibiotic agents. The antifungal agents keep the bacterial in the vagina under control. For this home remedy, you can just simply crush garlic for about three or four cloves and then smear the crushed garlic in the infected area for about 20 minutes and rinse it with lukewarm water. Or if you cannot stand with the garlic smell you can eat it in cooked form or choose garlic capsules.
